In 6R, 5R, 4R, and 3R Raymond mills, the letter R stands for Roller. The preceding number represents the performance level of the equipment, not the exact number of rollers. While more rollers mean a larger grinding contact area, other parameters such as grinding ring diameter also affect overall performance. Therefore, when selecting a model, you should not judge the machine solely by the number of rollers.
Naming Rules
The naming logic of the R-series Raymond mill is as follows:
R = Roller
The number only indicates the equipment grade, not the fixed roller quantity.
For example: The 4R3320 Raymond mill is a small-to-medium unit equipped with 3–4 rollers, not necessarily exactly 4 rollers.
Performance Level Classification
| Model | Equipment Grade | Standard Roller Quantity |
|---|---|---|
| 3R | Small | 3–4 rollers |
| 4R | Small–Medium | 3–4 rollers |
| 5R | Medium–Large | 4–5 rollers |
| 6R | Extra Large | 5–6 rollers |

Detailed Model Introduction
3R Raymond Mill
Grinding ring diameter: 830–970 mm. Standard configuration: 3 rollers (a few models have 4). Compact structure, small footprint, total weight only 4–5 tons, low upfront investment cost. Suitable for small-batch powder production and space-limited plants.
4R Raymond Mill
Grinding ring diameter: 970–1073 mm. Mainly equipped with 4 rollers (some with 3). Larger grinding area than 3R, capacity increased by 50%–80%. Strong versatility and high cost-performance, ideal for most small–medium powder production lines.
5R Raymond Mill
Grinding ring diameter: 1280–1400 mm. Mainly equipped with 5 rollers (some with 4). A medium–large grinding machine with significantly enlarged grinding area, output reaches 1.8–2 times that of 4R. Produces more uniform powder with higher pass rate, suitable for high-standard industrial production.
6R Raymond Mill
Grinding ring diameter: 1600–1770 mm. Standard configuration: 6 rollers (a few models have 5). High grinding efficiency, large single-machine capacity (over 10 tons per hour). Although initial investment is higher, its unit energy consumption is much lower than smaller models. Designed for large-scale continuous grinding operations.
Frequently Asked Questions
How to choose the right R-series Raymond mill?
Prioritize your capacity demand:
- 3R for small-scale production
- 4R for small–medium production
- 5R for standard industrial production
- 6R for large-scale continuous production
Is 3R the smallest Raymond mill?
No. There is also a 2R extra-small custom model for ultra-small batch production, with capacity ≤1 ton per hour.
Are there models larger than 6R?
Yes. There is a 7R extra-large custom Raymond mill, but it is less common in the market. For detailed technical specifications, please contact us.
